Old School

MichelangeloLike a lot of kids, especially a lot of young male artists, I spent a lot of time doodling comic book characters.  One of my favorite things to do was caricature sketches of my teachers turning them into superheroes (think nerdy, mustachioed social studies teacher turned muscle bound purveyor of justice).  Not all of the teachers saw the mirth in my renderings.  But I digress.

Anyway, one of my oldest and closest friends (one of my college roommates) and I have a long standing joke about his supposed “prowess” at drawing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  So I decided to harken back to my roots as a budding comic book artist and draw this for him as a gift.  I actually didn’t sign it and gave it to him with a card that read, “I found this in our room one year when we were moving out.  Since it’s not signed, I figure you must have done it.”

I actually really enjoyed doing this picture and taking a break from being a slave to reproduction, and instead focusing on pure creative output.  Good times.
