I’ve had this old skate deck hanging around for I don’t even know how long. It’s literally moved with me from Vermont to California to Colorado then back to Vermont again. For no reason whatsoever, I got the urge last week to paint on it. Initially I just gessoed it and was going to have at it, then started playing around with the orbital sander and peeling off layers of not just the gesso topcoat, but also the old layers of paint and stickers beneath it. The exposed wood grain along the edges change the whole complexion of it. This is going to be in a small art show in Burlington next week so I wanted to tee up something a bit different than my usual.
The image itself is…well, I’ll let you ponder it. The “DIY” lettering in the handle of the wrench probably gives it away. Anyway, I had a ton of fun doing this one. It’s untitled as of yet, but I have to come up with something before the art show it’s supposed to be in next week.
